Chief Joseph O’Connor served the Transit Police with distinction from 1990-2014 and has previously served as a police officer for the towns of Dennis and Winchester during his career. He rose through the ranks of the Transit Police, from patrolman to Superindent-in-Chief, a position he has held since 2012.
He holds a master’s degree in criminal justice from Boston University, and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Curry College. He is also a 2010 graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy. As Superindent-in-Chief, O’Connor had had a wide range of responsibilities on the 273-member Transit Police Department, including community policing, anti-terrorism, management, and maintaining strong ties with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. He also helped organize multi-agency policing efforts for major annual events, such as First Night Boston, The Boston Marathon, and the annual July 4th Celebration.
