The Everett Police Department is a full-service, professional law enforcement agency providing coverage twenty-four hours a day, three hundred sixty-five days a year. Currently, there are one hundred sworn police officers and twelve civilian support staff. In addition, there are thirty crossing guards and an Auxiliary department made up of fifteen officers who volunteer their time at community events. The Everett Police Department makes use of college interns as well as participating in the summer jobs program.
We are well positioned to address any and all public safety needs, although we do rely on partnerships to provide the best possible service to the people of Everett. Although most people see and have contact with our Operations personnel, who are on the front lines everyday responding to 911 calls and patrolling our streets, we have a number of specialized services available to get the job done.
Today, the Everett Police Department has two K-9’s, a Special Operations Unit, a Marine Unit, Underwater Search and Recovery teams, truck and traffic enforcement unit and a cadre of officers with extensive training and experience in areas such a crime prevention, juvenile and gang issues, senior citizen issues, drug awareness and prevention, information technology and crime analysis and intelligence and much more.
In the post September 11th era in an effort to prepare for and combat acts of terrorism, we have upgraded our equipment to include new state of the art radios, pistols, patrol rifles, patrol vehicles and motorcycles. Our officers have been trained and drilled in incident command. They have been trained and equipped in Weapons of Mass Destruction and have been outfitted with protective equipment. We are in the process of opening a state of the art command center, which will allow public safety and city personnel to manage any critical incident. We are constantly planning for and preparing to combat any and all forms of crime and disorder. Our emphasis will continue to be on addressing the quality of life issues. We will do so with the highest level of professionalism, dedication and excellence.
I am proud to say that the men and women of the Everett Police Department are committed to fighting crime, reducing fear and working with the community to provide fair and equal treatment for all. We will continue to do our best. As our motto says, “Serving With Pride Since 1870”.
